Lightning Talks

- can be focused on a best practice
- may also amuse and delight
- report on research
- highlight something in the classroom, campus, or community
- can be on something worthwhile in the Liberal Arts
You will be asked to include biographical information, a description of your presentation, and provide a photo (if you choose).
Presentation Advice:
- Each presentation is PRECISELY timed by a timekeeper (with a GONG for going over!), so please practice in advance to be sure you adhere to the ten-minute limit.
- Presentations sometimes take too long to “introduce,” so consider starting “at the middle” with less introductory information.
- For PowerPoint: Use “Zen” principles of design. Do not overload the slides. Use bullet points sparingly. Limit the text in each slide. Break up the presentation with text and visuals. Please avoid telling the audience to “read this slide” while you present.
- Talk to the audience, not the PowerPoint slides.
- If you are able to share copies of materials, please provide print copies (approx. 50 when in-person) for the audience, or a URL or QR code where attendees can access shared materials.
- New to presenting? Consider working with Communication Faculty at your campus to prepare.
